The E2 Society for Twice Exceptional Learners runs E2 Academy, a small private accredited school for students who struggle to have their unique needs and disabilities met in a traditional classroom setting. These amazing children, as well as being gifted, also have a range of diagnoses such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Tourette syndrome, PTSD, severe anxiety disorder, OCD, and other differences that make the learning process in a typical school very difficult.
Why do private schools conduct fundraisers and require tuition from families?
Did you know that from 2011 to 2016, private schools have saved the Alberta Government $750 million in student funding? Those totals do not include savings from capital costs, transportation, or teacher pensions not provided to private institutions. Financial support from the Alberta government is a fraction of what it is to the public education system. A student attending a public-school program would get $13,000 in funding from the government while a private school would only be provided $5000 per student*. Families are required to provide tuition and for many, the higher costs are a challenge. This year, E2 Academy has allocated $100,000 in tuition reductions for families.
E2 Academy provides many fundraising initiatives to offset tuition fees for families unable to provide the full amount. Our yearly auction is organized by our families and they generously contribute their time in seeking donations, organizing and conducting the fundraiser. Many families would not be able to afford sending their children to E2 Academy without these initiatives.
